Why have I never heard of this? Why don’t we all have them?

So, I have just learnt about this kind of dinner party they have in Japan in winter, called a nabe party, named after a sort of soup in a big pot that you serve and eat at the table (this blogger appears to explain the concept well if you’re interested).

Now, I’m not so excited about the soup, but I’m pretty excited about the table.

It’s called a kotatsu, and it’s essentially a table that you kneel/sit under, with not only a built-in doona but also a built-in heater under it, to keep you all warm and snug.

How cosy! How lovely! Why is this not something we all have?????
